Carers Independent Advocacy Service
Swan Advocacy provides independent support to help you express your views and understand your rights. Commissioned by BCP Council and Dorset Council, the Pan Dorset Independent Advocacy Service is here to make sure you can access the support you need, confidentially and without pressure.
What this service offers:
You can get help with:
- speaking up about what matters to you
- understanding and navigating care and support, including assessments, care planning and reviews
- making decisions, especially if you find it hard to communicate your needs
Specialist advocacy services include:

- Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) – to protect the rights of people who lack mental capacity
- Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) – for people detained under the Mental Health Act
- Continuing Healthcare Advocacy (CHC) – to help you understand and challenge CHC funding decisions
- Carers Advocacy – to make sure unpaid carers are heard in decisions that affect them and the people they support
All advocacy services are free, confidential and independent of local authorities and healthcare providers.
